Beauty and the Beach

I am thrilled to introduce you to Beauty and the Beach! This award winning company from Orange County has been beautifying brides for over a decade and what a stunning job they have done.  I spoke with Katie about her business and she was excited to share her story, and some fine tips for planning before the big day arrives.

“My name is Katie Vollmer and I am the founder/owner of Beauty and the Beach. Literally the name is derived from my two passions…I LOVE makeup and I LOVE the beach! Beauty and the Beach is a bridal beauty business that specializes in soft, natural, timeless hair and makeup for a woman’s BIG day! I began my career as a hair and makeup artist with Hair Comes the Bride 13 years ago. There I learned the professionalism that an artist should have. I then attended an amazing makeup academy in LA and learned all the ins and outs of the exciting world of movie makeup.
Beauty and the Beach was born when I discovered that brides needed and wanted honest, talented, affordable, professional and friendly artists to make their “Red Carpet” moment as perfect as possible. After all, we are the last one to have our hands on them before they walk down the aisle to say “I Do” to the one they want to impress the most! The beautiful bride needs to know that she will be in the comfort of one that will not only make her look and feel fabulous, but also, a calm and friendly personality to comfort her as her BIG moment approaches. Each stylist that works for Beauty and the Beach is not only an amazing hair stylist and makeup artist, but is honest, caring and proficient at every level necessary. We make the day run smooth and send the entire bridal party down that aisle on time and looking and feeling absolutely picture perfect!

Tips:
Just like every good vendor, hair and makeup artists book up fast! You will want to do your research and book your artists anywhere from 6-12 months in advance. Look at websites like Project Wedding and Wedding Wire to check out bride’s reviews. This way you are getting honest feedback about the local vendors you’re considering.
Don’t overlook the opportunity to have one person who can do both hair and makeup well. It alleviates the stress of coordinating around one more person’s timeline as well as limiting the personalities you may have to “deal” with on the wedding day. It’s just easier:)
Schedule a Preview 1-4 months before your wedding day to practice the looks you are going for. Bring your veil and/or any hair accessories to this appointment to get the entire picture of your completed look.

Don’t let any makeup artist tell you that you have to cake on the makeup for pictures! It is possible and necessary to look good in photos but also up close and personal…you’ll be seeing all your loved ones face to face and you want to look like YOU!
Try airbrush makeup if you have the opportunity…it goes on fresh, light and lasts ALL day!
Let your skin shine through!
Don’t fall for the crazy trends when it comes to hair and makeup. Those are fun for bridesmaids, but when it comes to your bridal look, you want it to be timeless!
Make sure you as the bride communicate clearly. Everyone’s idea of a smokey eye or messy bun are different. As a stylist, we can’t read your mind …so open, honest communication is a must…at your preview and on the wedding day.
Bring in photos from magazines or of celebrity styles to your Preview so you both have a visual of the look you are going for. However, be realistic when it comes to the length, style, texture, colors etc…when it comes to you and your hair and makeup.

Make sure your stylist has a contract. This not only protects them, and shows professionalism, but most importantly it protects YOU!
Make sure you talk to your photographer and/or coordinator when it comes to the timeline for hair and makeup on the wedding day. You’ll want to make sure your stylist has plenty of time to get you all done ON TIME for your photographer…typically 2-3 hours before your ceremony.
Have fun getting glammed up!! This should be a relaxing and exciting treat…to have your hair and makeup done:)”
Thank you Katie, you are truly fantastic! Make sure to follow Beauty and the Beach on Facebook !
